You just returned from your trip with Learn and Travel. You have hundreds of photos on your phone in front of the Golden Gate Bridge, at Google's offices, or walking through London. You likely already uploaded the best ones to Instagram and TikTok.
But, have you uploaded them to the social network that will get you a job?
Many students make the mistake of thinking an academic trip is just "tourism". Error. For a recruiter, an academic trip demonstrates curiosity, adaptability, and global vision.
Here is the step-by-step guide (with copy-paste texts) to transform your trip into a magnet for opportunities on LinkedIn.
1. It's Not Just a "Trip", It's an "Educational Experience"
The first place you should include your program is in the Education or Projects section, don't hide it.
How to list it?
- Institution: Learn and Travel (or your University in collaboration with Learn and Travel).
- Program Name: "International Academic Program: Innovation & Tech in Silicon Valley" (or the destination you visited).
- Description: Here is where you sell the experience.
Copy and paste this example (and adapt it):
"Participated in an intensive 6-day academic program in San Francisco, focused on the innovation and technology ecosystem. During the program, I visited the headquarters of leading companies like Google, Tesla, and Apple, interacting with professionals about the future of AI and global corporate culture."
2. Your Profile "Headline"
If you are a student, your headline shouldn't just say "Student at University X". Add your international vision.
- Before: Finance Student.
- After: Finance Student | Interested in Global Markets | NY Finance Program 2025 Participant.
3. Validate Your "Soft Skills"
Companies hire for attitude and train for skill. Having traveled demonstrates skills that aren't learned in the classroom. Go to the Skills section and add:
- Adaptability: (You navigated a new city, used unknown transportation).
- Intercultural Communication: (You interacted with people from another country).
- Networking: (You asked executives questions and lived with other students).
- Business English: (If the trip was in English and you understood the lectures, it counts!).
4. The Perfect Post
It's not enough to update your profile; you must make "noise". Write a post about your trip. Don't just upload the group photo smiling; upload the photo and tell what you learned.
Structure of a winning post:
- The Hook: "I never imagined I would learn so much in one week..."
- The Insight: "Visiting the offices of [Company] opened my eyes to how the [Your Major] industry really works..."
- The Appreciation: Tag @Learn and Travel, your university, and, very importantly, the speakers or guides you met (if you have their profiles).
5. Connect with Those You Met (Real Networking)
Remember that engineer who gave the talk at Google? Or the executive who received us at the bank in NY?
Look for them on LinkedIn and send them a personalized connection request (never send the default one).
Connection Script:
"Hi [Name], I'm [Your Name]. I attended the Learn and Travel visit last week at your offices. I was very inspired by what you mentioned about [Mention a specific topic]. I would love to stay in touch. Best regards!"
